Voter Guide Arguments in Favor of Prop D

The Voter Guide for the June 2006 election contains 27 paid arguments in favor of Prop D. In stark contrast, there are only 13 paid arguments against Prop D. Twice as many San Franciscans were willing to “put their money where their mouth is” to support Prop D than the small vocal minority who oppose it.  People from across San Francisco, from a wide variety of political beliefs, jobs, ethnic, racial and age groups wrote and paid for arguments supporting Prop D.

In contrast, the majority of the arguments against Prop D were paid for by Dr. Mitch Katz, Public Health Director, whose dangerous admissions policies caused the problems that made Prop D necessary.  Even the opposition argument by certain members of the Board of Supervisors was paid for by Dr. Katz.

Laguna Honda residents, families of residents, and current and former staff members (including doctors and nurses) authored arguments in favor of Prop D.  Importantly, no residents or family members, and only one Laguna Honda employee, authored arguments against it.

Over 20,000 San Franciscans signed petitions to place Prop D on the ballot to protect frail elderly and disabled San Franciscans at Laguna Honda and provide them a safe environment!

Note: Mayor Newsom’s Opponent’s Argument is included for reference, since many of the paid arguments in favor of Prop D refute the Mayor’s false claims. It is important to remember that, when he was a Supervisor, the Mayor opposed the 1999 bond measure to rebuild Laguna Honda.

On June 6, Vote Yes on Prop D!
